The decision of agricultural problems with beetles pests when sending solid grains for long term storage


Insect pests are a great danger to agriculture all over the world. The existing method of struggle

The most common method of struggle is fumigation / aeration - a method of disinfection, pest and rodent control measures associated with the destruction of pests and plant pathogens by poisoning them with toxic vapors or gases.
Unfortunately fumigation was not so effective solution for the control of pests in storage. Because rice is packaged in bags of 45-50kg and bags stacked on pallets at a height of about 6 meters, storage space is not sealed, that provide high-quality processing of products by this method is not possible. Most beetles retain the possibility of reproduction, which leads to increase in the next population.
Fumigation in similar stores in Southeast Asia carried out every 3 months, entailing considerable financial costs and relative effectiveness.








Nonchemical method of disinfestation of grain

An alternative method of pest control is the treatment with ionizing radiation for the purpose of sexual sterilization, so-called non-chemical or clean technology, as it is not used to achieve the goal of any chemistry.
The doses required for the sexual sterilization of beetles, too small (100-300 Gy), which allows greatly reduce grain processing time ensuring a high processing speed.
Negative impact on the grain in such a treatment is not provided, bugs completely lose their reproductive function, and when crossed with healthy individuals also do not produce offspring that effectively affects the sharp decline in the total population.
The high penetrating power of ionizing radiation makes it easy to handle and pests inside the bag that allows you to completely destroy the population.

Technical characteristics of gamma-installation

According to the request of "NTB" Radtehproekt "(Supplier) together with the Customer can create an industrial-scale plant designed for the sterilization of medical supplies and food products placed in boxes. Installation - the irradiation chamber with radiation protective concrete walls with a water basin to accommodate the exciter radiation sources and equipment, ensuring the delivery of radiation to the area and radiation processing of products with specified characteristics of Radiation-technology. The plant provides uninterruptible power supply system of the executive equipment with a diesel generator, which provides continuous operation of the plant at the time of a power outage.

• radiation source - cobalt-60.
• initial activity feed - 350 ± 10% kCi. (12.95 * 1015 Bq).
• Maximum capacity of the irradiator - 2000 kCi.
• irradiator - planar, two-piece (~ 76 channels to download sources).

Installation management and security system

Process control system is designed for automated inspection and process control exposure line at the facility with Co-60 radionuclide sources of ionizing radiation.

APCS is a two-level hierarchical system. The system includes the following structural elements:
